Giles
After graduating from London’s Saint Martins in 1992, Giles Deacon worked with Jean Charles De Castelbajac in Paris for 2 years. From 1998 until 2002 he was a designer at Bottega Veneta and the Gucci Group.
In February 2004 Giles presented his first collection at the Chelsea Pensioner’s Club at the Chelsea Royal Hospital. The show was styled by Katie Grand with music by Steve Mackey of Pulp and lighting by John Akehurst. Models included Karen Elson, Eva Herzigova and Nadja Auerman.
The collection was featured in American, British, Japanese, Italian and French Vogue, as well as W, Harper’s Bazaar, POP and i-D and was bought by Harvey Nichols, Liberty and Selfridge’s.
In November 2004 Giles was awarded ‘Best New Designer’ at the British Fashion Awards. This was followed by Giles being awarded the Elle ‘Best New Designer’ award in February 2005.
In 2006 Giles collaborated with American Express on the Red project.
In November 2006 Giles was awarded British Designer of the Year.
In 2008 Giles collaborated with New Look, also Evoke Jewellery collection which incorporates Swarovski crystal – capsule of 4 collections.In the same year, Giles is designing a bar for the Elton John AIDS foundation in collaboration with Grey Goose to raise money for charity, a one off denim dress in collaboration with Lee Cooper which will be auctioned off to raise money.
In addition to expanding the ready-to-wear with a pre-collection, an important commercial development for the label, Deacon introduced accessories in a two season collaboration with Mulberry called Mulberry for Giles, which was a commercial and critical success. He also added an on going consultancy with New Look to design New Look Gold for the high street retailer.
Aside from fashion design, Giles is an established illustrator. His work has appeared in Interview, The Face, Pop, I-D, Dutch and Arena Homme Plus, and has formed part of the print design within his ready-to-wear collections. Most recently Giles’ illustrative work
was part of a group show at the roma roma roma gallery, organised by the Modern Institute and Gavin Brown Enterprise in New York.
Since its launch in 2003, the Giles collection continues to be bought by some of the most prestigious stores in the world and the defile has established itself as a key fixture of London Fashion Week. Giles takes a very personal approach to the business and regularly involves himself in buying appointments, a fact appreciated by international buyers and store directors. He continues to have a strong following amongst celebrities and regularly dresses Thandie Newton, Kate Moss, Drew Barrymore, Kylie Minogue, Lily Allen, Daisy Lowe, and Daphne Guinness.
